Send a map with SMS using Share, 2010-05-10

Here's one from my wishlist: send map with sms! Just add the layer "Share", enter friend phone number and fire away. If you rather want to email, Twitter or post to Facebook, that's doable too. I've found the new layer especially convenient to mark a spot where to meet. Your friend will receive a message with a link to page with map.

Lean Google local search, 2010-04-31

Do you also like Google search but hate the data cost of Google Mobile maps? Then the new Locago layer "Google local search" is something for you. It combines the marvelous search of Google with the lean and fast maps of Locago. To use it just do "Menu->Add layer->Google local search" and you're all set. Remember to use local language for the search words when you do search, the English keywords won't work when you're in Sweden for instance.

Locago is the only initiative worth mentioning, 2009-10-16
The Swedish media magazine Fokus writes about the lack of open API's at the Swedish authorities. Locago, which uses the open API from the Swedish National Heritage Board, is listed as the only positive initiative.
Rating for the best ambition goes to the National Heritage Board. They have a database of 1.99 million points of interest that are accessible via an open API. When the company Locago (Idevio: editor's note) wanted to build a service that helped identify the ancient remains using the cell phone they could use the database directly. It took about an hour for the National Heritage Board to assist, then Locago could solve everything. Without additional cost to the Authority are now 700 000 ancient sites available for most mobile phones. As the National Heritage Board, type in a newsletter: "It was a nice spin."

Locago has generated interest from a variety of different areas and has been selected as the platform for a number of commercial products including an advanced traveler information service for an upcoming world congress. Locago offers branding opportunities and more advanced functionalities for commercial content providers, telecom operators and handset manufacturers. This enables Locago to increase product value, increase retention and leverage new sales channels through a low initial investment.
