A much awaited feature is now available for Locago: offline maps! Many users have asked for
the possibility to download maps in order to save data costs when travelling and roaming.
The downloading is done in a separate app, the Locago MapLoader, available on several app stores.
The MapLoader enables you to download country-by-country or the complete coverage. The map data
comes from OpenStreetMap licensed
under CC-BY-SA license.
The maps are divided in to smaller chunks (approximately 10MB) to ease the download process. The
total map distribution is November 2010 is approximately 1.9 GB. The regions share overview maps,
that makes the total less than the sum of the parts.
Don't forget to restart Locago after downloading the maps. After restarting Locago will ask if the downloaded maps should be used or if the maps should be streamed over the air. When downloading we recommend a wifi connection or a fixed data plan. The MapLoader works on most Java enabled phones with memory access (MIDP 2.0, JSR-75).
Buy the Locago MapLoader at the Nokia Ovi store if you're a Nokia user or from the Bango app store.
